Robert Lee Greene Jr., better known by his stage name Spice 1 (an acronym for “Sex, Pistols, Indo, Cash, and Entertainment”), is an influential rapper born on July 2, 1970, in Bryan, Texas. He later moved to Oakland, California, where he became a pioneer of the Oakland-San Francisco Bay Area hip-hop scene. With a career spanning over three decades, Spice 1 has left an indelible mark on the world of hip-hop and gangsta rap.

Spice 1’s career took off in 1991 with the release of his first EP, “Let It Be Known.” The following year, he released his self-titled debut album, “Spice 1,” which helped him gain popularity and establish his presence in the music industry. His 1993 album, “187 He Wrote,” further solidified his status as a force to be reckoned with in the gangsta rap genre.
During his time with Jive Records from 1991 to 1999, Spice 1 released six albums and one greatest hits collection. Three of these albums – “Spice 1,” “187 He Wrote,” and “AmeriKKKa’s Nightmare” – were certified gold. Spice 1 has continued to release albums throughout his career, including “The Black Bossalini” (1997), “Immortalized” (1999), and “Platinum O.G.” (2019).

Spice 1 has also been involved in numerous collaboration projects, working with artists such as Criminalz, MC Eiht, and Jayo Felony. Some of his notable collaboration albums include “Criminal Activity” with Criminalz (2001), “The Pioneers” with MC Eiht (2004), and “Thug Therapy” with Bossolo (2015).

Having survived a shooting incident in 2007, Spice 1 has remained dedicated to his craft, continuing to make music that resonates with his fans. His gritty lyrics, powerful storytelling, and distinctive flow have made him an icon in the world of hip-hop and gangsta rap.
