Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., professionally known as Snoop Dogg, is a rapper and actor from Long Beach, California. Snoop Dogg rose to fame in 1992, when he was featured on Dr. Dre’s debut solo single, “Deep Cover,” and then on Dre’s debut solo album, The Chronic. From there, Snoop Dogg’s debut album, Doggystyle, became a critical and commercial success. Since then, he has sold over 23 million albums in the US and 35 million worldwide, won an American Music Award, a Primetime Emmy Award, and received 17 nominations at the Grammy Awards.

Snoop Dogg’s music career began with Dr. Dre, who worked with him on “Deep Cover” and The Chronic. “Who Am I (What’s My Name)?” and “Gin and Juice” were hit singles from his debut album and helped make it a commercial success. However, his music often sparked controversy because of its violent and misogynistic content. Snoop Dogg was viewed as a softer rapper, speaking softly compared to his peers.

Snoop Dogg’s second album, Tha Doggfather, was released in 1996. While it did well, it was not as successful as its predecessor. He produced no more tracks for Suge Knight after Dr. Dre left Death Row Records, as he was subject to an ironclad time-based contract that practically owned everything he produced for a number of years. In 1998, he signed with No Limit Records and released Da Game Is to Be Sold, Not to Be Told. He went on to release several other albums, including Ego Trippin’, Malice n Wonderland, Doggumentary, Bush, and Coolaid.

Aside from his music career, Snoop Dogg has also acted in several movies, including Training Day, Starsky & Hutch, and Soul Plane. He has also appeared in numerous television shows, such as The Boondocks and Empire. Snoop Dogg has also been a prominent figure in pop culture, frequently appearing in skits on late-night talk shows and collaborating with various artists.

In 2012, Snoop Dogg announced a documentary, Reincarnated, and a new studio album by the same name. He also introduced a new stage name, Snoop Lion, after a Rastafari priest in Jamaica rechristened him. He has since released another mixtape, That’s My Work 2, and formed a funk duo with musician Dâm-Funk called 7 Days of Funk. In 2015, Snoop Dogg released his thirteenth studio album, Bush, and followed it up with Coolaid in 2016 and Neva Left in 2017.
