Ricardo Emmanuel Brown, known by his stage name Kurupt, is an influential American rapper, songwriter, record producer, and actor born on November 23, 1972, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Kurupt rose to prominence in the 1990s and played a significant role in the growth of gangsta rap, setting lasting trends within the genre. He is one-half of the rap duo Tha Dogg Pound alongside Daz Dillinger, with their debut solo album arriving in 1998. After a period of feuding, the duo reunited in 2005.

Kurupt’s music career began with three songs on the S.O.S. Band’s 1991 album, One of Many Nights. In 1992, he signed to Death Row Records, joining a roster of talented artists, including Daz Dillinger, Lady of Rage, Snoop Dogg, Nate Dogg, and RBX. Kurupt and Daz then formed Tha Dogg Pound, which gained popularity through their features on Dr. Dre’s debut solo album, The Chronic.

Kurupt left Death Row Records after Tupac Shakur’s murder in 1996 and founded Antra Records under A&M Records. He released his debut solo album, Kuruption!, in 1998. Throughout his career, Kurupt collaborated with various artists and formed new groups, including The HRSMN and The Riflemen. In 2005, Kurupt and Daz reconciled and restored Tha Dogg Pound.

Kurupt has been cited as a significant influence by renowned artists such as Kendrick Lamar and Eminem. He has released several solo and collaborative albums, and his extensive discography has earned him a Grammy Award nomination as a member of Tha Dogg Pound.
